10 WTF Superhero Movie Moments You Won't Believe They Got Away With

2. Magneto & Xavier's CGI Facelifts - X-Men: The Last Stand

X-Men: The Last Stand I have to admit, this is a damn impressive feat of visual effects engineering, with CGI being used to de-age Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen for some scenes set in the past during X-Men: The Last Stand. If there are many things director Brett Ratner got wrong, opting to go this bold route over unconvincing make-up effects or simply different actors was not one of them, even if the final result is a little bit weird and not 100% on the money. Check out the above image to see how Stewart's face was smoothed out from the raw footage, and though it's an excellent job, the final moving image just doesn't quite convince; it gives the "uncanny valley" effect in a sense, in that we know it's a great effect, but we also never forget that it's an effect. It's so close to being perfect, but not quite (and even if it were, would we accept it anyway?)
