9. Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler opened up
X2 with one of the best scenes in the franchise to date, as he effortlessly tore through security in the White House. Played by Alan Cumming, he was a fine addition to the X-Men movies. The teleporting, blue-skinned mutant has always been a major character in various comics and cartoons since his creation, but now its time for him to support his own movie. The teleporting elf was first created in 1985 by Dave Cockrum, and since then the character has been fleshed out by various different writers. Nightcrawlers back story is admittedly a little muddled (remember, this is a member of the X-Men), but his characterisation has always been a fan favourite. Raised in a circus, Nightcrawler was shunned and labelled by the public as a freak, and it wasn't until he was recruited by Xavier that he discovered his true potential. His teleportation mutation is his key skill, but his acrobatic finesse sets him apart from the rest of the X-Men. He has a musculature unlike many other mutants, and a unique tail that has saved him from many sticky situations. Hes a great character, and there are many arcs that could be adapted into a movie. His father is Azazel, who made his first cinematic appearance in
X-Men: First Class, so perhaps incorporating him into a story could work. Either that, or have a movie based upon Nightcrawlers role in
Excalibur. Just give him a sword, and let the magic happen. Nightcrawler is an charismatic, swashbuckling mutant who really deserves the movie treatment. One of his most enjoyable portrayals was arguably in
X-Men: Evolution, as he featured as a mutant teen dealing with the prejudice of mutants, and his bizarre image in the midst of high school. It was a nice little dynamic for the character, and Nightcrawlers earlier years could easily be turned into a compelling movie.
