10 X-Men: Days Of Future Past Problems Apocalypse Must Address

2. Is Mystique A Villain?

Based on the final few minutes of X-Men: First Class, it appeared as if Mystique had embraced a future as a villain by choosing Magneto over Professor X. When she reappears in X-Men: Days Of Future Past, she was working to help her fellow mutants on her own terms - which isn't that different from the comic books - but still very much a "hero". Her decision to spare the life of Bolivar Trask created a new timeline, so perhaps this world will now feature a Mystique who is nothing like the cold blooded killer introduced in the original X-Men Trilogy. That Mystique was willing to do anything for Magneto, so Singer needs to decide whether or not these prequels are still building up to his first two X-Men movies or whether the movies are going to end up with a new timeline in future, present day-set releases. If however these movies are still building towards the original X-Men, it's time to delve into what caused Mystique to take the path she did. What would lead to her aligning herself so closely with Magneto and why did she turn her back on humanity? Whatever happens, X-Men: Apocalypse needs to decide once and for all if Mystique is a hero or villain.
