100 Comics That Should Be Movies

34. Hack/Slash

Cassie Hack, Along with her bulking sidekick Vlad travel the country and kick the ass out of slashers. Killers who have returned from the grave and go on a killing spree. Cassie€™S very own mother was one and this is what kicked started Cassie on her mission to stop the slashers. Within the comic book, created by Tim Seeley, Cassie has her own set of villains but she€™s also faced off against The Re-Animator, Hachette and everyone€™s favourite killer doll Chucky from the Child€™s Play series. Given the right audience response, this movie adaptation could even start bleeding into other franchises. Considering the world is cross over crazy post Avengers, who knows Cassie might even get a chance to go up against Freddy and Jason on our big screens. How Close Is It To Being Made: Well the film has been picked up by Rogue pictures but that was 2008 and since then it€™s all been rumour. The series has been picked up by Image Comics since then and continues to go from strength to strength, so who knows what€™s around the corner. Casting Choices: Well the obvious choice for me is Megan Fox. Not only does she look the part, it€™s a role I€™d love to see her swing her bat at. Beyond that, there has been rumour that Kat Dennings hovered around the project too, an actress more known for her smart mouthed delivery than Megan Fox is but even so, I€™d still be more inclined to cast Megan. 33. The Flash

Nicknamed the Scarlett Speedster, DC's quickest superhero The Flash has remarkably existed and thrilled comic book readers for over 70 years but has yet to find himself adapted as a feature film. This is made even more remarkable when you consider that Marvel have been making successful comic book movies for over a decade now but DC/Warner Bros, despite enjoying a huge success with The Dark Knight trilogy, have resisted bringing the fattest man alive to the big screen. Which is a shame as there is such a good movie that could be told... The movie would focus on Barry Allen, a CSI lab technician working with Central City police who is exhausted and over-worked with the increasing amount of unsolved cases that are coming in from the same suspect. When a freak accident (oh come on, Marvel do this all the time!) occurs in his laboratory, he gains super-speed and takes on the mantle of The Flash (named after his childhood superhero favourite comic book character Jay Garrick) and ventures out around Central City to catch the suspect, Captain Cold, nicknamed as such becomes his ray gun freezes his victims. The depth of the character is a man trying to outrun justice and he is a human superhero who could be given layers of great complexity and depth. How Close Is It To Being Made?: It got close a few years ago when David Goyer was working on a script but then WB now seem insistent that The Flash should be introduced as part of a Justice League ensemble, rather than in his own solo movie. Casting Choices: Barry Allen is a good, family man who is a devoted husband and committed to his work for the police force. We always liked the idea of Ryan Reynolds playing The Flash but he ended up being Green Lantern for WB. In that case, the man who lost out at the audition stages for Lantern, The Hangover star Bradley Cooper, may not be the worst choice. Suggested by Matt Holmes

32. Kree-Skrull War

The Kree-Skrull War was an epic inter-galactic Marvel plot line that primarily occurred in the Avengers series. The cosmic scope of this story almost makes it impossible to fit in a single movie. Much of the story line would have to be modified to make use of the already-selected film Avengers, but that shouldn't be too difficult. Who really wants to see Marvel's pathetic Flash-wannabe Quicksilver on the screen anyway? How Close Is It To Being Made? - We're halfway there already. With the Avengers and Avengers 2 films already in place, Hollywood could follow in the footsteps of its X-Men series by bringing the Kree-Skrull War to life as part of a longer series of Avengers sequels. I see "War" being more of a running background story that carries through a variety of Avengers tales with a final Avengers movie concerned primarily with the conclusion of "War". Casting Choices - I can easily see Thomas Jane or Barry Pepper in the role of Captain Marvel. Each has the ability to portray a more serious hero such as Captain Marvel. The choice for Rick Jones is a little more difficult. In the Marvel universe, Jones has enjoyed defining roles in the creation of the Avengers, the Hulk, and a version or two of Captain Marvel. He also had long-term dealings with Captain America and ROM. With the potential of a Rick Jones character to appear in many future Marvel films, it is likely necessary to find a fresh face that is young enough to give some continuity to future Marvel films. 31. Vagabond

Miyamoto Musashi is one of the most revered swordsmen in Japanese history. Vagabond is a serialised retelling of his life through the exquisite art of Inoue Takehiko. Vagabond is a violent and serious manga, avoiding many of the comic tropes that are common throughout the medium. Takehiko€™s art style is naturalistic, going for realistic proportions and period costumes, though Musashi himself does feature a westernised look common to many manga leading males. What makes Vagabond so great is the unflinching violence and realistic action that is scarce among manga writers. How Close Is It To Being Made?: Strangely Vagabond hasn€™t being adapted into an anime series or film which is common practise with popular mangas. The Samurai genre has seen a recent revival thanks to recent classics such as The Twilight Samurai and 13 Assassins but so far nothing is in the works. Casting Choices: Sakaguchi Tak (of Versus fame) would be awesome as Musashi. Suggested by Ed Moorhouse

30. Skydoll

Sky Doll is a series of comic books, first published in 2000, by Alessandro Barbucci and Barbara Canepa. Essentially it€™s a science fiction piece that deals with the struggle between religion and mass media and also has a fair bit of sex in it too. Noa, a Skydoll is an android without rights and is built to serve the state€™s desires. She hops aboard a pair of missionaries€™ spaceship and befriends Roy. As the story progresses we see the different religions around the galaxy and gain an understanding of how the one that was all about love has been pushed out of the limelight for a religion that only believes in sexual love. The story is densely layered with different cultures and beliefs and a whole load of great characters. The scale of this thing is Star Wars big, even if there aren€™t battles and what not and the subject matter is explored quite thoughtfully. Also is a damn pretty looking looking comic book. How Close Is It To Being Made?: Given the fairly small audience, there is more chance of this one coming out of Europe but I€™ve not read anything that indicates that might be happening. Casting Choices: Given the very animated styling of the comic book, this would convert to an animated movie far easier than it would a live action feature. With that said, I could see Zooey Deschanel playing the wide eyed, innocent lead android easily. Well, if you consider a fair bit of makeup and crazy costumes, easy that is.
