11 Action-Horror Movies To Get Your Blood Pumping

4. They Live (1988)

Quite often, horror films are mistaken as an opportunity to satiate our lust for violence, death, and sex, more times than not, taken at face-value. Fortunately, that is not the case for the majority of movies in this genre, They Live is about as direct as they come, providing a brilliant political allegory, wrapped up in a humorous b-movie.

One of legendary horror director John Carpenter's underappreciated films, it follows Nada, a wanderer who comes across a pair of glasses that magically show you the world as it truly is. As it turns out, the human race is being manipulated by the social elite, who are actually invading aliens. The media, advertising, and the government are intent on enslaving the human race without a struggle so Nada takes it upon himself to free humanity from their grasp.

The acting is poor, as are the special effects, and the script... but it's all tongue-in-cheek and a b-movie classic. If you were a fan of Invasion of the Body Snatchers but felt an injection of campy action fun and a professional wrestler in the lead role would have spiced it up, this is your movie.

I watch, then I write. It could gory horror movies or confusing yet loveable cult hits like Donnie Darko. So have a look at what I write, or don't. It's fine, I don't mind.
