11 Actors Who Survived Career Suicide Twice

11. Mickey Rourke

Mickey Rourke appears self-destructive by nature and has admitted as much in interviews. Despite being a gifted actor and sex symbol during the eighties, he frequently clashed with directors and actors and turned down roles that could have helped his career. He eventually grew bored with acting in the early nineties and decided to become a boxer, and despite winning many bouts the damage he sustained to his face required surgery that drastically altered his looks. When his boxing career ended he tried to make a movie comeback, only to find he€™d made enough enemies to make him basically unhireable. He played supporting roles in little-seen movies for years, but the combo of Sin City and The Wrestler brought him back into the warm embrace of audiences. He couldn€™t keep himself out of trouble, however, and after slamming Marvel over his character€™s portrayal in Iron Man 2 he then made a bunch of terrible movies that went directly to DVD. He recently received raves for playing a retired assassin in comedy Ashby, and if he€™s shown one thing in his career it€™s that he€™ll always find his way back.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
