11 Awesome 2015 Horror Movies To Watch This Halloween
9. Unfriended
Here's a film that looked absolutely terrible from the advertising, but turned out to be one of the year's most unexpected little gems. The premise, of a group of teenagers being terrorised online by an anonymous force, could easily have been another lame cyber-horror flick, but with surprisingly solid performances and Leo Gabriadze's exceptional direction, it totally works. Of course, the film has a great gimmick, too: the entire movie is a screencast of the protagonist's laptop, with the terror unfolding in the middle of a Skype group chat. Refreshingly, Gabriadze's film doesn't cut corners and stays faithful to the authenticity of how both computers and Skype in particular work, making the whole thing feel so much more "real". In fairness, it's not massively scary, but it's dripping with atmosphere and thoroughly engaging throughout its short length all the same. It printed money at the box office, too, so unsurprisingly a sequel is reportedly on the way, and if it can retain the same level of ingenuity on display here, then that's no bad thing.
