11 Best New Horror Movies For Halloween 2021

7. Lamb

Antlers Movie
A24

There are two types of reaction to the little lamb-human hybrid that this film centres around: either you think she’s weirdly cute and you’d quite like to give her a hug, or you think she’s a creepy abomination and needs to be destroyed. Only one of these is the correct response and I will not be clarifying which one it is.

Lamb is pretty experimental in its content, in that it’s not often you come across a critically-acclaimed Icelandic horror about a small family whose child is a lamb-girl. Giving atmosphere aplenty and a constant air of tension, Lamb is just the kind of horror you want to watch on a cold, misty weekend when you’re curled up at home carving pumpkins.

Director Valdimar Jóhannsson cites everything from folklore and art to Icelandic poet Sjón as his inspirations for this flick. It touches on love, loss, parenthood and nature, all wrapped up in a sort of eerie horror haze.

It’s definitely one of the more unique films you can watch this Halloween, and if nothing else it’ll look impressive added to your Letterboxd alongside the other beginner titles that come up so often this time of year!
