4. Yondu Dies - Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol
Marvel Studios

Guardians Vol. 2 climaxes with Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) facing off against his villainous father Ego (Kurt Russell), detonating a bomb which kills Ego and annihilates the rest of his planet, while Yondu (Michael Rooker) flies in to rescue Peter.

In an act of redemption for his many prior misdeeds, Yondu then places his single spacesuit on Star-Lord, sacrificing himself in order that his surrogate son can live. It's an emotionally devastating moment that's superbly acted by both Pratt and Rooker for maximum heartbreaking effect.

And if that's not enough, Yondu is fully redeemed in the eyes of the Ravagers, who hold an epic funeral for him as Cat Stevens' iconic tune "Father and Son" plays out. Keep tissues nearby, because it's surely the most affecting climax to any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to date.
