4. Behold, The Deacon Prometheus

Put aside for a moment your hatred or praise of Prometheus for one second, and accept plainly what the film tried to do. It tried to blaze a story trail outside of the Alien franchise, while also trying to connect itself to it. The end result is a mixed bag for fans of the franchise, as some accepted it and others didnt. Prometheus was a movie that you were either with or you were against. Some of that hatred was aimed at Damon Lindelof's "Questions over Answers" approach to screenwriting, while some of it was aimed at Sir Ridley Scott not having a good film on his record since Kingdom of Heaven's extended cut. But regardless of the feelings people had on the film, and regardless of where they laid the blame, one of the most impressive moments was at the end when the newly impregnated Engineer gave birth to the progenitor of fearThe Deacon. Also known as "The Proto-Alien", this rather interesting looking creature has the basic shape of a xenomorph, with a rather painful looking version of the famous second mouth. If anything, the rough quality of this newly born species looks scarier than the future incarnation, which is more rippled and polished. More importantly, that final moment connected everything that came before to everything that is yet to come. Trying to figure out how and why it evolves the way it did will be as terrifying as it is intriguing.
