11 Bonkers Theories About 2019’s Movies That Surely Can’t Be True

8. Rey Is A Clone Of Palpatine - Star Wars: Episode IX

Hold onto your hats for this one. The nature of Rey's (Daisy Ridley) parentage has been a major source of speculation throughout the sequel trilogy so far, and even though Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) revealed that she was the spawn of strung-out junkers, many fans believe this will turn out to be either incorrect or a flat-out lie.

Moreover, this nutty theory states that the junkers weren't in fact Rey's biological parents, but merely the people who raised her.

Rather, Rey is in fact one of many clones of Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), created so both his "seed" and the Sith itself could live on throughout the galaxy regardless of his own eventual fate.

The supporting evidence? The name Rey means "King" in Spanish, the vision of multiple Reys in The Last Jedi were in fact visualisations of her clones, and having Rey's heroism spawn from the evil of Palpatine perfectly mirrors Kylo Ren's evil emerging despite him being the child of heroes.

While it certainly wouldn't be beyond J.J. Abrams to undo Rian Johnson's controversial twist, the Star Wars franchise is incestuous enough as it is, and having yet another crucial character be a surprise relation to another is sure to evoke as many eye-rolls as dropped jaws.
