11 Comic Book Characters Who Shouldn't Have Had A Movie (And The Alternatives Who Should)
10. Steel
Steel has never been popular enough to warrant his own movie and DC has countless superior characters to the man with the big hammer, so it was very strange that they made this movie. Even more bizarre was the casting of basketball superstar Shaquille O'Neal as John Henry "Steel" Irons. Not only was it a silly idea, but the depiction of the character was also a million miles away from the comic book version. Most significantly, he was vastly underpowered in comparison. Rather predictably, the film was a complete and utter bust in every sense of the word. It was critically annihilated and, following the use of a $25 million budget, it grossed a grand total of a mere $1.7 million at the box office. The character should have been left well alone. Alternative movie that should have been made: Lex Luthor. This film was originally dreamed up with the intention of it being a spin-off of a new Superman movie. When that movie never happened, this spin-off occurred without it. The opportunity should have been seized to make a Luthor movie that could have included his own power armour, if indeed an armoured character was something DC wanted to make a movie about. The rise of Luthor is far more interesting than anything they could have made about Steel.
