11 Comic Book Characters Who Shouldn't Have Had A Movie (And The Alternatives Who Should)
8. Elektra
Like Supergirl, Elektra isn't an unpopular or poor character but, given that her movie was a spin-off from one that did so terribly, it never should have seen the light of day. Daredevil, in which Jennifer Garner's Elektra Natchios first appeared, did okay at the box office. It wasn't an enormous hit by today's standards, but it earned $179 million from a $78 million budget - it's just that its critical reception was underwhelming to say the least. It wasn't universally reviled but its overall review status is "mixed" at best and, given that Daredevil is a more well-known character than Elektra, it wasn't the best idea to spin-off from his movie with a movie solely about her. Elektra's box office performance was quite poor, with $56 million being made from a $43 million budget, but its critical reception was horrific. Nobody really had anything good to say about it and it's hard to say that was anything other than expected. Alternative movie that should have been made: Black Widow. Granted, it's all worked out well on the Black Widow front now but, back in 2005 when the Elektra movie came to be (off the back of a movie with a terrible reputation), it would have been better to start afresh with another character who is strongly connected to Daredevil (they've been partners in the comics), but who didn't appear in his terrible movie and therefore have a disadvantage with audiences by default.
