11 Cult Musicals You NEED To See

2. The Blues Brothers (1980)

The Rocky Horror Picture Show Tim Curry Susan Sarandon
Universal Pictures

When Jake Blues (John Belushi) is released from prison for good behaviour, he’s picked up by his brother and bandmate Elwood (Dan Aykroyd) in his trusty bluesmobile. But after learning that the orphanage they were raised at is about to be sold, the pair set out on a mission to get their old band back together to raise the money needed to save the orphanage.

And from herein The Blues Brothers is an offbeat, upbeat, and tire-burning extravaganza full of oddball humour, car chases, and some of the most soulful music that’s ever been featured in film. Carried by the charismatic leads, this cinematic favourite is home to a captivating charm that we can’t help but fall for every time.

And, of course, this film wouldn’t make it on this list if the songs weren’t up to an incredibly high standard. A euphoric fusion of soul and blues, tracks like “Shake Your Tail Feather” and “Soul Man” will have you dancing in your seat while other musical rendition of “Peter Gunn Theme” and “Minnie The Mooch” are guaranteed to immerse you within the film’s sublime bluesy tones.

This film will have you seeing the light in no time.
