11 Dumbest Things In The Worst Summer Movie Season Ever

3. All Those Perverted Camera Angles - Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

The Mission: Impossible series has always had something of a woman problem, from the fact that not a single female character has appeared in significant capacity in another movie, to the leering camerawork that defines the second, fourth and now fifth films. Director Christopher McQuarrie proves himself a dab hand when it comes to riveting action sequences, but he leaves a little to be desired when it comes to admiring the female form in a way that isn't eye-rollingly transparent. The most offensive moments include Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson) seductively elevating her legs for no real reason at all while preparing a sniper shot in Vienna, the gratuitous panty shot as she takes down a guard (pictured above), and the totally unnecessary sideboob shot when she changes out of some wet clothes. To the film's mild credit, though, a lingering shot of Ilsa's behind emerging from a swimming pool that appeared in the trailer was actually cut from the final movie. That apparently passes for "restraint" these days. While Ilsa is one of the series' best female characters to date and the easy highlight of the new M:I film, couldn't she have been a less-blatant sex object? In 2015, it just doesn't really fly, and will make the film seem hilariously outdated in the coming years. As for whether Ferguson will end up back for the sixth film? Don't bet the house on it.
