6. Mashed Potatoes = Child Abuse - Sinister 2

In a totally unnecessary subplot, Courtney (Shannyn Sossamon) is presented with a custody order for her two sons by her estranged husband Clint (Lea Coco). Reluctantly, Courtney and the boys go to Clint's home for dinner, at which point Clint comments that son Dylan (Robert Daniel Sloan) isn't eating. Dylan says that he's not hungry, which for some reason causes Clint to flip his lid, picking up the mashed potatoes by hand and shoving them in Dylan's face while screaming maniacally. The whole scene is meant to be a disturbing look at the domestic abuse Courtney and her kids had to live under previously, but Coco's hilariously over-the-top performance combined with the ridiculous mash incident just makes it howlingly silly and laughable. It's a perfect example of a totally tone-deaf scene, one which single-handedly explains why the widely-panned Sinister 2 ended up in the ever-terrible late-August release slot.
