11 Emotional Stages Of Watching The Shawshank Redemption

Brooks Was HereThe Brooks bit is too much for me to bear. There's something about scenes with old people in during films that cut right to the bone. The bits concerning 70 year old institutionalised Brooks being released from prison are emotional from start to finish. No one wants to see a sad old man, not in jail, not in a hotel room, not anywhere. It's almost too upsetting. From him writing to the guys to say "I'm tired of being afraid all the time and I've decided not to stay" to the 'Brooks Was Here' carving, the entire sequence that culminates in his death is heartbreaking. Where were you when he needed you? You have to remind yourself that it is just a film, and there was nothing you could have done even if it were real. (And you can't help but wonder what happened to Jake as well...)

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
