Is Alanis Morissette actually a decent musician, or...? Regardless of your perspective (and it's probably worth setting the much-maligned Ironic aside for a moment), there can be no doubt that she should have been offered (or accepted, whichever is the issue) far more cinematic roles after her remarkably understated performance in all-star comedy Dogma. Casting Morissette was a seriously brave choice by those in charge of the film. Her only previous acting role had been in a Brazilian soap opera, and she was being asked to play God. Yes, that's right - a FEMALE God. Dogma may be a comedy, but anyone playing God - especially a non-male God - has to get it right. Amazingly, she nailed it. Her scenes are pretty captivating, and she matches up to the likes of Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Alan Rickman quite well. Oddly, she's only made a few television cameos since. Her music career has continued to blossom though. Shame on both fronts, really.
