9. Being A Maledictus

One of the most fascinating abilities in the Potterverse comes in the form of... well, many forms. The Animagi are a group of witches and wizards capable of taking on the form of an animal - most famously: James Potter, Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew and Minerva McGonagall - but it should be noted that the transformation is controlled wholly by the Animagus themself.

That's not the case when it comes to the Maledictus. Though the Maledictus can control their transformation for a time, eventually they will be trapped forever in the body of their assigned animal. The most notable example of a Maledictus in the current canon is Lord Voldemort's snake, one of his Horcruxes and also a former circus performer: Nagini.

Sometime prior to Harry Potter's birth, the Maledictus curse cast on Nagini took hold of her and trapped her for the rest of her days as a snake. Granted, she retained a normal human lifespan but it is not known if she remained capable of human like intelligent thought.

Despite her later affiliation with the Dark Lord, you really have to hope that she did not remain capable of intelligent thought but it is entirely possible - forever trapped without limbs, without the ability to speak and forever cursed to live out the Biblical punishment handed to Satan himself.
