11 Horror Movie Remakes Coming In 2017
10. I Know What You Did Last Summer
Following the release of Wes Craven’s self-knowing slasher revival flick Scream in 1996, a whole host of similar films arrived in its wake attempting to exploit its success though none so well-received as Scream itself. One of those subpar offerings was the Jennifer Love Hewitt fronted horror I Know What You Did Last Summer, about four teens stalked by a hook-wielding maniac after committing a fatal hit and run the previous summer. Although commercially successful, it wasn’t exactly a hit with the critics.
Clearly the film industry isn’t aware of the old saying ‘you can’t polish a turd’, because even though anyone who saw the original really couldn’t give two sh*ts what anyone did last summer, an IKWYDLS remake is scheduled to hit cinemas in 2017 with a script penned by Jeff Howard and Mike Flanagan (who previously teamed up on Oculus and Ouija: Origin of Evil), the latter of whom confirmed the film would be ‘a whole new deal’.
Mind, considering it’s currently director-less and cast-less and has already been shunted from an original 2016 release date, we probably won’t be holding our breath for a totally fresh retake.
