11 Horror Movie Remakes Coming In 2017

8. Friday The 13th

It Remake 2017
Paramount Pictures

If there’s a horror franchise that’s truly been done to death it’s Friday the 13th and its infamous villain, hockey mask wearing psychopath Jason Vorhees. Since the start of the franchise in 1980, there have been countless sequels, a Freddy Krueger crossover, a TV show, and a 2009 reboot.

According to Paramount, however, there’s apparently life in the old dog yet because just a mere eight years since the last reboot another is in the works. First conceived as a found footage movie, an idea later scrapped following fan outrage, the film’s crew currently includes Prisoners screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski and director Breck Eisner, who previously dipped his toes in the horror remake pool with his 2010 remake of George A. Romero’s The Crazies.

Cast your mind back to the very first Friday the 13th film and you’ll remember it was actually Jason’s mother Pamela Vorhees that was behind the murders of horny, teenage camp counsellors with Jason not making a kill until Friday the 13th Part 2. But with producer Brad Fuller confirming that the movie will be ‘origin-ish’ and ‘a little bit different’ from what has gone before, it’s possible the 2017 reboot could reveal some interesting answers about the Vorhees’ backstory. Like how Jason is constantly resurrected despite being drowned, axed in the face, dissolved by acid, machete-hacked by Corey Feldman…
