11 Huge Screw-Ups From The 94th Oscar Film Nominations

9. The Best Editing Field - Again!

Don't Look Up
Warner Bros.

Nominees: Don't Look Up, Dune, King Richard, The Power of the Dog and Tick, Tick... Boom!

Every. Single. Time.

Most years, the Best Editing field is kind-of a joke (particularly in 2019, when the terribly edited Bohemian Rhapsody won) since this category often fails to recognize the films that were actually the best-edited of that year and instead the Best Picture nominees get these slots whether it was deserved or not.

And once again, the Academy screwed up in this department. Dune and tick, tick... BOOM! were fine, but the other three - King Richard, The Power of the Dog and Don't Look Up - all needed to go.

Alright, in fairness all three of those films were well-edited but top-five level? Not quite. None of those films exactly did anything extraordinary in this regard and both King Richard and Don't Look Up were overlong as well, so these nominations were largely unjustified, especially since there were many 2021 movies with far superior editing.

The Tragedy of Macbeth, Licoirice Pizza, Palme D'Or winner Titane, West Side Story, Last Night in Soho, The Last Duel, In the Heights, Nobody... it's not like they weren't spoiled for choice.

Sure, not all of those films just listed are great movies, but they've all got fantastic editing and that is what this Oscar is supposed to be rewarding. Therefore, any of those would've been better choices.
