1. Dr. Strange (1978)

Even back in the '70s, there were people alive who were entirely dedicated to the idea of transforming a comic book into a fully-fledged motion picture, with actors and cinematography and dialogue and everything. Granted, in the case of
Dr. Strange, these people were probably insane or very drunk, but ambition is ambition, and who knew that they were actually onto something? Unfortunately they were about 24 years too early. This mis-judged and horribly camp take on one of Marvel's most famous characters was made for TV, though it's says a lot about the movie that you simply couldn't tell that. That's not a compliment: it looks as though it was made for€ what's less than TV? I wouldn't dare insult radio. Anyway, somebody named Peter Hooten played Dr. Steven Strange, a man who must come to realise his destiny as the supreme ruler of all things magic. It's a credit to Mr. Hooten's relative obscurity that he doesn't even have a clickable Wikipedia page. For some reason the Doctor himself is a cocky flirt who turns up late for work all the time and sort of verbally disrespects everybody that he comes into contact with. You might be surprised, then, to learn that this one was a massive flop, in the sense that nobody watched it. Stan Lee put the low TV ratings down to the fact that it aired opposite
Roots. All right, Stan. Whatever you say.
