11 Major VFX Errors You Won't Believe Were Missed
6. Padme’s Disappearing Pear - Attack Of The Clones
This is it, the moment when George Lucas really went overboard with the amount of CGI he crammed into his films. Gone were miniatures and the colourful cast of puppets and animatronics used, now all replaced by that bone-chilling sentence - "We'll fix it in post".
And that they truly didn't, especially when it came to the cringeworthy scenes between Anakin and Padme, as they were meant to be falling in love. That being said there are weird cow things that Anakin rides on, which just look wrong and the lengthy discussions over sand, but it is when the two share a pear that it all falls apart.
Now a long day spent listening to Anakin complain about sand will make anyone hungry, so when Padme gets the chance to sit down for a delicious pear she takes it. This should be a pretty simple scene right?
Well, wrong because Anakin felt the need to show off by using the Force to steal said pear then only float it back once it was cut in half. In doing this poor Natalie Portman had to pretend to catch a fake pear in the air and then eat it. This would look hokey enough, but to add the cherry on top of this already cringy sequence of scene, a bite disappears out of the pear before it even gets into her mouth. SPACE MAGIC CONFIRMED!
