In the early 1980s, screenwriter Gary Goddard was commissioned to write a script for a film based on X-Men character Dazzler to star Bo Derek. The project fell though, however, and Goddard instead wrote the film Tarzan, the Ape Man for the actress. The original script (by Jim Shooter, to be adapted and extended by Goddard) was written for a mere half-hour long animated feature. The list of names linked to the original project include Robin Williams, Cher, Donna Summer, Rodney Dangerfield, Lenny and Squiggy, the Village People and KISS - hence it was originally going to be animated, not acted. When the idea was set to be adapted in to a live action movie, Bo Derek - who was fresh from her most famous role in 10 - was genuinely interested in playing the titular heroine, but her demands included that her husband, John, would direct the film - and that turned out to be the main reason that the film didn't happen.
