2. Luke Skywalker Killed Rey's Parents

A lot of the pre-release hype for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has hinted that the film will have a "shocking" and "unexpected" revelation that totally upends what fans thought they knew.

What, then, would be more galling than revealing that Luke in fact murdered Rey's parents, surely driving a huge wedge between master and apprentice at a pivotal moment, perhaps even right at the end of the movie?

Inevitably, Episode IX would no doubt reveal that Luke did it because Rey's parents were bad people or whatever, but if Rian Johnson wants to try and create his own epic "I am your father"-esque reveal, this would be one of the more interesting, not to mention dark, choices to go with.

It'd certainly be a fun misdirection considering how many people suspect Luke is in fact Rey's father himself. "Are you my father?" "No, I killed him." Roll credits.
