11 Most Compelling Pieces Of Evidence That Batman Triumphant Would Have Been Great

3. Schumacher Was Going To Go Dark

As part of his move closer to Tim Burton's take on Batman, Schumacher had assured fans that Triumphant was going to be considerably darker than Batman & Robin. He maintains that he wanted to go deeper into Batman's psychology, with a plot driven by the sadistic duo of Scarecrow and Harley Quinn conspiring to have Batman committed to Arkham Asylum. It's not likely that Schumacher would have killed a member of the Bat-Family but peeling back the Batman mask and dealing with his demons - including in that irresistible sounding trial sequence - would have been a welcome diversion after the superficial silliness of Batman & Robin.

The problem for Schumacher's other films - if he is to be believed - is that Warner Bros. tied his hands on their desired demographic and sanitised his vision. That ultimately left him with unfinished business, which inspired his grand, expensive pitch for Triumphant - a pitch which could have led to a redemptive master-piece.

Sure, it wouldn't have led to the revisionist, grittier take on Batman that Nolan brought in, but Schumacher's darkness would have been more like Burton's, and would - crucially - have remained faithful in spirit to the comics.
