11 Most Compelling Pieces Of Evidence That Batman Triumphant Would Have Been Great
4. It Was Going To Be A Continuation Of Burton's Work
Ironically, given Warner Bros' now infamous agenda to make the Batman movies more child-friendly in the wake of Batman Returns' darkness, it was the movement away from everything that defined Tim Burton's vision that saw Schumacher's sequels die on their feet. Where Burton's interpretation was gothic and macabre, with a theatrical camp to it, Schumacher's was gaudy and garish, robbing Batman of his correct context and slathering him in dayglo paint and s&m gear. And it wasn't just a tonal swerve that made Schumacher's films stand out: it was as if Warner's had rebooted the series entirely.
Burton might have stayed on in a producer role, but his trademarks were notably absent and the character had very little to do with the first two film's lead beyond a similar looking costume and the name. Burton and his vision had been boxed away, to the franchise's eternal detriment. But according to Schumacher's manifesto, the fifth film would have returned to threads that were left open by Batman Returns, and explored the psychology of Bruce Wayne's duplicitous personality. And of course some of the films' characters would also have returned to restate that kinship with Burton's work.
