11 Most Compelling Pieces Of Evidence That Batman Triumphant Would Have Been Great

5. Nic Cage Actually Does Well With Outrageous Characters

Ghost Rider Nicolas Cage
Columbia Pictures

Nicolas Cage has a problem with restraint, that much is patently obvious. Not only does he struggle to say no when very clearly terrible film offers come his way (see about 85% of his CV), but he also brings a maniacal undercurrent to his performances when it's not always entirely necessary. Or at least he does when he's not sleep-walking through bargain basement dross like Rage.

The idea of him playing Scarecrow as a sort of larger than life extension of every dark element of Crane's character - just as he did with brilliant self-awareness in Kick-Ass - is as irresistible as it is chilling. He has that tangible franticness behind his eyes, and a pantomime commitment to grandeur in performance that would have worked well under Scarecrow's mask.
