11 Most Disappointing Movies From Summer 2017

1. The Book Of Henry

The Buzz: Though Colin Trevorrow may have turned in mixed results with 2015's Jurassic World, there was still plenty of hope for his drama The Book of Henry, which seemed to be an engrossing, emotional coming-of-age story, and with Naomi Watts and Jacob Tremblay leading the cast, it was easy to give Trevorrow the benefit of the doubt.

What We Got: Probably the most unexpectedly awful movie of the summer, a staggeringly tone-deaf film that veers violently off-course from what the trailers marketed it as, aggressively attempting to wring tears from the audience that it absolutely didn't deserve.

It's incredibly rare for films to misjudge themselves this egregiously, and of course, when it's an Oscar-baiting movie, people are always going to be harder on it. Poor Naomi Watts in particular: she really tried to sell this one, but was ultimately helpless against Trevorrow's crassly manipulative narrative.

And Trevorrow's directing Star Wars: Episode IX next? Oh boy...
