11 Most Horribly Disappointing Movie Supervillain Reveals

1. Venom (Spider-Man 3)

Sony Pictures

But there was no character who comic book fans latched onto with as much hope...and expressed such subsequent disappointment with as Venom, probably Spider-Man's most popular foe in the comic book world. After Sam Raimi did fair, goofy justice to both Green Goblin and Doc Ock, it seemed that Venom would be a home-run for the director, but a wildly over-populated script, forcing Raimi to also deal with Sandman and Green Goblin Mk. 2, didn't give him enough wiggle room to sort out the finer points. That and he admitted he wasn't even a fan of the character himself anyway...

The result was a botch job from start to finish. Topher Grace was horribly cast in the role of Eddie Brock, the CGI Venom suit looks terrible whenever it's moving, we don't see enough of Venom's face (we mostly see it as pictured above instead), and he's dispatched with relative ease by Spidey, with the help of some metal poles. Venom is a more-than meaty enough character to get his own movie against Spidey, so if there's one promising aspect of the new Amazing Spider-Man universe, it's that this character might eventually get his due.

Which supervillain characters, comic-based or otherwise, were a huge disappointment to you? Let us know in the comments.
