11 Movie Cliches You Couldn't Live Without

8. Multiple Enemies Attack The Hero One At A Time

The Cliche: Even though the hero is grossly outnumbered by potentially hundreds of the antagonist's lackeys, they'll engage them one at a time rather than collectively turn them into a shish-kebab, allowing the protagonist to cut them down one-by-one in an impressive sequence of wanton murder. Kill Bill Vol. 1's savagely entertaining House of Blue Leaves sequence is surely the epitome of this cliche.

Why It's Awesome: It's inherently ridiculous but almost always results in an incredibly bada** fight scene, again with Kill Bill perhaps providing the best reason why: we get to see Uma Thurman chopping people to pieces for about 10 minutes, and it's deliriously, ludicrously enjoyable.

For most movies it may not amount to much more than lazy fight choreography, but if you can suspend your disbelief just a little bit, it makes the hero look like a superhuman, murderous beast.
