11 Movie Cliffhangers That Were Ignored In The Sequel
2. Diamonds Are Forever Sidesteps Bond's Revenge
On Her Majestys Secret Service is, depending who you ask, one of the best Bond movies of all time; it had a great, emotional story and top-notch action. Some think it would be considered the best ever if Sean Connery had starred, but George Lazenbys more innocent take on Bond was actually a better fit for the story. The movie ends with Bond married and driving off with his new bride Tracy, only for Blofeld and henchwoman Irma Bunt to open fire on their car. Bond is unhurt, but poor Tracy takes a bullet to the forehead; the film ends with a heartbroken Bond cradling his lost love. Its a fairly heartbreaking ending for a 007 movie, and this cliffhanger set the scene for some epic revenge. Instead the next film, Diamonds Are Forever, saw the return of Connery after Lazenby bailed. It opens with an angry Bond chasing down Blofeld and seemingly killing him, implying hes seeking revenge. But no mention is made of Tracy or Irma Bunt, the one who actually pulled the trigger - but since the actress who played Irma passed away before the film the character was likely omitted out of respect. It does leave a rather big subplot unresolved though.
