7. The Predator Is Getting A Blockbuster-Sized Budget

Shane Black spoke about his upcoming Predator sequel, The Predator, claiming that Fox are extremely excited about the project. Black said of the studio, "They said, €˜What if we said to you we want to reinvent this, and really treat it with as much of an event status, or as much hoopla as we would the Alien prequel, which is coming out also? We really want to make this something. The kind of movie that people line up for.€™ I said, €˜Really, you'll spend a bunch of money?€™ They go, €˜Yep.€™ I go, €˜Make it really scale, spectacle?€™ €˜Yep€™ €˜S***, that sounds interesting.€™" If we consider that Alien: Covenant will likely have a similar budget to the $120-130 million Prometheus, Black's saying that The Predator will have a price tag in the same range, at least $100 million by the sound of it. Given that not a single of the three core Predator movies to date has cost more than $40 million, this is a huge step up for the franchise, and depending upon how Black mounts the movie, could bring Predator out of the cult shadows and into fully-fledged blockbuster territory. Above all else, it means that The Predator is going to have a much, much larger scale and more elaborate effects than any of the previous movies.
