11 Movies Which Got Geography Completely Wrong

1. The Sound Of Music

At the end of the film, the von Trapp family escapes the Nazis by hiking out of Salzburg, Austria, across the Alps, to freedom in Switzerland. It makes for good old-fashioned 1965 musical storytelling, but it doesn€™t really take into account practical geography.
It€™s 210 kilometers from Salzburg to the closest border with Switzerland, and that€™s traveling in a straight line. That route doesn€™t take into account the fact that this area is some of the most mountainous terrain on Earth. The von Trapps may have sung €œClimb E€™vry Mountain,€ but they would have been hard pressed to stay hidden and make this particular trek. In fact, the first mountain they crossed would have brought them to Berchtesgaden, where Hitler had his summer home. Not the place you want to go if you€™re trying to escape the Nazis. Any that we missed? Let us know and we'll save them for the sequel.
