11 Movies That Prove Modern Film Is Just As Good As The Classic Era

8. The Social Network (2010)

00325 Once a decade a film comes along that defines the entire generation that bore it and The Social Network is the aughts defining film. Through the story of Mark Zuckerberg's founding of Facebook director David Fincher and writer Aaron Sorkin were able to present a portrait of one man that served as a blanket statement for much more than just Zuckerberg himself. Zuckerberg's founding of his famous social networking site was able to become a haunting allegory for the age of internet over-exposure that we're currently living in. The Social Network is a brilliant exploration of greed, internet anonymity and the nature of people in the aughts. Fincher's choice to shoot the film with digital photography only serves to add a clinical atmosphere to the movie which serves to really sell it's story of Zuckerberg retreating into the internet to escape his troubles and find solace. The way in which we interact with each other now is completely different than it was in any other generation and Fincher's movie captures this perfectly, which cements The Social Network as a film that belongs to be held in the highest regard.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
