The Cabin In The Woods the rare movie that can make the apocalypse seem like a happy ending. In this Joss Whedon penned horror comedy a bunch of college students are tricked into taking part in a human sacrifice, which will prevent ancient gods rising up and destroying the world. The survivors manage to overcome redneck zombies, werewolves, Mermen and all kinds of nightmarish creatures to uncover the truth, at the climax storming the facility that organised it, which leads to some very creative carnage. In the end the two remaining characters having been through the night from hell ultimately decide not to play along. Instead, they sit back and let the Gods do as they wish with the planet, which kills them in the process. If the Gods go on to destroy the whole world isnt revealed, though the outlook is very grim. Even though the ending seems conclusive somehow theres still talk of a sequel, though the filmmakers confess they have no clue how the story could actually continue.
