4. Black Christmas / Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon

Spider Man 2 Punisher
Warner Bros / Anchor Bay Entertainment

Black Christmas is a classic slasher from 1974, where the girls of a sorority house are menaced by an unseen killer. The film is unusual in that it never explains who “Billy” is or why he’s doing what he’s doing, which makes it even more unsettling.

The horrible 2006 remake gave an explanation, but that one is best forgotten. Another film called Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon actually has a stealthy link, tying it directly to Black Christmas. The film is about the rise of a new serial killer as he’s followed around by a documentary crew, and during the film they meet his mentor Eugene, who mentions he was a killer active in the seventies.

The film never explicitly states it, but in the director revealed Eugene is actually Billy from Black Christmas, who retired without being caught and became a mentor to the next generation of killers.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
