11 People Who Got Paid Insane Money For NOT Making A Movie

11. Bob Hoskins - The Untouchables

The late, great Bob Hoskins was equally adept at playing gentle, loveable characters and raging psychopaths, so he would have been an excellent choice to play infamous gangster Al Capone in The Untouchables. Brian De Palma thought so too and offered him the role after the studio refused to pay Robert De Niro€™s fee. Hoskins accepted the part in good faith, only for the producer to approach De Niro one last time. Surprisingly the actor changed his mind and decided to accept it, so Hoskins was promptly dropped from the cast. A short while later his wife opened a later one morning and found a cheque for $200,000 with a note reading €œThanks for your time Bob, love Brian.€ Hoskins then called the director up and said: €œBrian, if you€™ve ever got any other films you don€™t want me in, son, you just give me a call.€

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
