11 Scariest Final Shots In Thriller Movie History

5. Mulholland Drive

For my money, pretty much any David Lynch movie could comfortably sit on a list of the best horror movies, but for the sake of causing no arguments we'll lump them into the thriller category, even if each and every one of his releases (bar The Straight Story) features at least one moment of pure, abject terror.

Mulholland Drive is no different, all about an aspiring actress losing her mind and suffering through an identity crisis. This internal struggle is externalised in the way Lynch captures 'reality', often having the artifice of the idyllic life his protagonist has created threaten to come crumbling down via psychedelic visuals, something which finally happens in the final scene.

The terrifying sequence sees her psyche break completely, haunted by hallucinations of tiny people invading her house, knocks on the door, and relatives giving chase. In the end, she shoots herself, as an unnamed woman at a theatre with striking makeup and blue hair watches the whole thing unfold, giving out a final "silencio" before the screen cuts to black.
