11 Songs That Were Far Better Than The Movies They Were Made For

3. All For Love - The Three Musketeers

In terms of big names in the music industry, they didn’t come much bigger in the early 90’s than Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting. Getting any of these stars of the day to sing your lead single would have been a coup, but having each of these three singing the title track for this 1993 film was monumental.

The song proved to be the slam dunk success that the film’s producers hoped, with each of the famed singers united in a catchy song that displayed all the trios talents. More importantly for the film’s producer, the song was a commercial success. It became a chart topper in over ten countries including the prime target market of the US, while reaching number 2 in the UK. The music video contained the best clips that the film had to offer, while the lyrics utilised the most famous catchphrase from the film, All for one, while inferring a love story at the heart of the film.

Sadly, the same success did not befall the movie, with a lightweight script and uneven tone contributing to the lack lustre final product. The bizarre decision to add a fourth musketeer, d’Artagnan, was a shocker, that was further amplified by the bewildering decision of making d’Artagnan the film’s primary protagonist.

The casting of Chris O’Donnell in this role proved to be the straw that broke the camel’s back, with a typically O’Donnell performance on show, which is not a compliment. The film received only a 28% score on Rotten Tomatoes and while the film did manage to recoup its losses, it was neither the high quality product or commercial success that its title track promised.
