11 Things You Learn From Watching 336 Films In 2014

5. It Is Remarkably Hard Not To Watch Clueless More Than Once

Thanks to the way films are sold to TV stations, it's entirely possible to find yourself absent-mindedly watching The Shawshank Redemption three or four times in a single month: they're incentivised to schedule it multiple times because it's cheaper to buy in bulk, like at Costco but with significantly more Con Air. But even if you're consciously avoiding the irresistible vortex of late night TV movies, a year is a long time, and that earlier quip about watching What Women Want by accident multiple times is a surprisingly pertinent one. If you're over-familiar with a movie, you'll watch it on autopilot, and if you love something as unassuming and undemanding as Clueless - still the single greatest Shakespearean adaptation ever made (SHUT UP) - you'll find yourself struggling not to put it on again and sing along to the Mentos theme tune. And there's nothing wrong with that.
