11 Things You Learn Rewatching A View To A Kill
5. Bond Cooks A Quiche...For Some Reason
There are many, many weird things in this film, but perhaps nothing is stranger than the fact that, mere moments after meeting Stacey for the first time, 007 decides to show off his cooking skills by making a quiche.
You can argue that it's a sly attempt to self-reflexively comment on the sexism of the Bond franchise and have the spy doing a sterotypically "womanly" activity, but it still feels howlingly out-of-place, even in a movie this silly.
The scene was apparently intended to reference the 1982 satirical best-selling book Real Men Don't Eat Quiche, which is especially interesting as its writer, Bruce Feirstein, went on to write the scripts for Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and a number of Bond video games. Weird.
At least Bond's trying to seduce a woman here by cooking for her rather than acting like a brazen creep. Progress?
