A set-piece that doesn't work quite so well, however, is the arrival of Dr. No's "dragon", which both Quarrel and Honey speak to Bond of as a literal entity, when in fact, it's revealed to be nothing more than a tank with a flamethrower attached.

Perhaps the scene might've been a tad more effective were it not for the tank having cartoonish eyes and teeth attached to the front, almost as if Dr. No thinks this will make the "stupid" locals believe it's a real creature rather than a man-made work of engineering.

Sure, it's pretty horrifying when Quarrel gets burned to death by the flamethrower, but overall this scene suffers from an abundance of tonal whiplash. It wants to be serious, but it's hard not to laugh.
