7. Blofeld Is Dropped Down A Chimney & Never Seen Again (For Your Eyes Only)
If you ask most Bond fans who the most iconic and memorable villain is, they're probably going to say Ernst Stavro Blofeld, who appeared in six official Eon Bond films with his iconic formal wear and white cat. However, after Bond foiled his plans once again in Diamonds Are Forever, a legal dispute between Kevin McClory and Eon Productions meant that Blofeld couldn't explicitly be used in the next film, For Your Eyes Only. Rather than just use a different villain for this movie, the filmmakers rather clumsily developed a pre-credits prologue in which Bond faces off against a faceless individual who is clearly intended to be Blofeld yet, for legal reasons, is never named. The embarrassing sequence has Bond using a helicopter to scoop up Blofeld's wheelchair and drop him into a chimney stack, presumably killing him off. Given how brilliant a character he was, to see him killed off in such a flippant and cartoonish fashion rankled a lot of fans, who haven't seen the character in an official Bond film since. He was, however, played by Max von Sydow in the unofficial Bond flick Never Say Never Again in 1983 (though sadly the film gave von Sydow little to do), and it's widely rumoured that he will be played by Christoph Waltz in the upcoming Spectre.
