11 Unintentionally Awkward Movie Moments

6. Ryan Gosling And Carey Mulligan Have An Awkwardly Slow Conversation In Drive

Ryan again. He must have some sort of fetish with awkward films. This film is awkward because its main characters are so freaking quiet. Some people claim that gives the film a realistic vibe, but I beg to differ. Like Mia Wallace would say, people feel the necessity to yak about bullsh*t to be comfortable. True story. €œHe had a good time,€ Irene says, referring to her son. €œMe too€ the Driver goes. Both are smiling guiltily, as if they €˜re about the burst out in laughter, but they are trying to hold it in, like in the Biggus Dickus scene in Monty Python and The Life of Bryan. The Driver informs her he€™s available this weekend on which she just doesn€™t respond at all. Instead she keeps staring at him until he leaves. Good or bad awkward? This one is a hard call, because apart from being quite awkward in an unrealistic way, it has its perks somehow. It€™s special. But if you just think away Ryan Gosling€™s cute, slow smile, you can see the scene for was it really is: too freaking slow to be good. There€™s no reason to wait that long in between sentences. And why is she not even answering him at the end of the scene? Why are they staring at each other like that? Is it love?
