11 Unnecessarily Flamboyant Scenes Wasted In Terrible Movies

8. Opening Death Scene - Ghost Ship

The Scene: Ghost Ship opens with a party in full swing on a cruise liner. Suddenly, an unknown hand pulls a lever which causes razor wire to fling across the dance floor, slicing everyone in half except for a young girl (Emily Browning), who is too short for the wire to reach her. The party guests all stand still for a moment, before they all collapse in half, their guts spilling everywhere, much to the girl's terror. Why It's Unnecessary: Because the rest of the movie is a dull, generic ghost story and has absolutely nothing on the unforgettable, incredibly elaborate opening scene. It's clear that a lot of money must've been spent on the CGI effects of the bodies slicing in half, yet the rest of the movie relies on cheesy haunted house tropes to get by, and has none of the inventiveness of this scene. Clearly, all the effort was put into this brilliant opening scene, but considering how flat and unoriginal the rest of the movie was, they needn't have bothered. Critics hated Ghost Ship, and though it was a financial success at the time, it's not exactly a movie anyone talks about anymore...except in lists like this.
