11 Upcoming Sci-Fi Movies That Could Be Better Than Star Wars: The Force Awakens

1. Blade Runner 2

What started out as perhaps the most unwanted sequel of all time has actually turned into quite a promising endeavour. Like so many of these films, it€™s promise is not carried by the storyline (of which we know nothing) but rather the talented people involved. Denis Villeneuve, who will hopefully have honed his grasp on the genre after Story Of Your Life, is behind the camera along with master cinematographer Roger Deakins. Harrison Ford is returning and this time he€™ll be joined by Ryan Gosling. Even without knowing anything about the film, it€™s hard to not get excited at all of those people working together. So this means we're looking at another sci-fi classic starring Harrison Ford being remade. Despite being less beloved by the masses than Star Wars, it does have an easier road to success. The original's distinct style, universal themes, and ambiguous nature all captured viewers in ways that Star Wars couldn't and the pedigree of those involved suggests it could do the same again. The one drawback of all this is that the age-old question of whether Deckard is a replicant will inevitably be answered. But surely a little less ambiguity is worth the possibility of another classic. Blade Runner is arguably the best science fiction film of all time, so if a sequel can even harness a fraction of what made the first one so great, it€™ll be in good shape to top even the likes of Star Wars. Which science-fiction films are you looking forward to? Think any of them will be better than The Force Awakens? Let us know in the comments.
