8. A Detective And An Extraterrestrial (Alien Nation)
Science fiction was a highly popular genre in the 1980s and Alien Nation, released in 1988, was one of a huge number of films, from Highlander to Cocoon, that utilised extraterrestrial life as part of their storylines. Set in a world where an alien race, consisting of three hundred thousand individuals, have taken up residence in Los Angeles, the film sees James Caans human detective, Sykes, paired with the first detective from the alien race, Francisco (Mandy Patinkin), despite the fact that Sykes holds somewhat discriminatory views towards the alien populace. The two proceed to investigate a conspiracy involving a number of alien deaths, with Sykes eventually coming to terms with the biological makeup of his new partner in what is a silly yet watchable film.
