Fans of the series have stitched together the idea that new cast member Helen Mirren could be playing the mother of Jason Statham and Luke Evans’ evil brothers, with Charlize Theron’s new mystery villain being their sister; she's brainwashed Dom in a revenge mission against her clan.
This would explain why Statham’s character is released to aid in her capture too. Even for this series, this theory seems like a stretch, though.
